(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser released the DCPS Rising Community Engagement Report, summarizing feedback from District residents as the search continues for a Chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).
“This is an incredible opportunity for Washington, DC to move even further toward high-quality education,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “We have collected valuable input from residents across all 8 wards and I am looking forward to using this report in the selection process.”
Parents, teachers, students, and other Washingtonians participated in a variety of ways to provide input on the factors the Mayor should consider when selecting the next Chancellor. The Community Engagement Report provides details on what residents would like to see in the next Chancellor and continuing improvements in DCPS. Specifically, residents shared reflections on the desired skills, qualities, and experiences of a new Chancellor.
“I am pleased with the amount of community input we have received throughout this process,” said Deputy Mayor for Education Jennifer Niles. “This report reflects considerate and thoughtful feedback from residents who all want to see DCPS rise even higher.”
As a part of the process, Mayor Bowser received recommendations from the DCPS Rising Leadership Committee, a 17-member panel of teachers, students, and parents appointed to make recommendations on the factors which should be consider when selecting the next chancellor.
“We are honored to be a part of what has been the most inclusive process to date for selecting the next Chancellor,” said DCPS Rising Leadership Committee Co-Chair Gina Adams. “We are proud of what the Committee has submitted to the Mayor, and look forward to the future of DCPS,” said DCPS Rising Leadership Committee Co-Chair Pat McGuire.
Over the course of this process, the Committee met four times to provide feedback and input on the community engagement process and develop recommendations for the Mayor. Committee members also attended community forums on the search process.
