Mayor Bowser to Kick Off HBCU Public Service Program and Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, November 13 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate National Apprenticeship Week by joining the presidents of Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia to kick off the new HBCU Public Service Partnership Program.

Announced by Mayor Bowser at this year’s Bloomberg CityLab 2023, the HBCU Public Service Program is a first-of-its-kind opportunity connecting students at local HCBUs with opportunities in District government, providing them with valuable paid work experience following graduation.

At Monday’s event, students will learn more about the HBCU Public Service Program and hear from officials on the benefits of a career in District government ahead of applications opening in February 2024.
