(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser called on the public for assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in connection to a homicide that occurred on Thursday, July 18, 2019, in the 2700 block of Naylor Road, Southeast. The decedent has been identified as 11-year-old Karon Brown, of Southeast, DC.
“We need our communities to stand up and speak out and help us identify who is responsible for murdering Karon Brown,” said Mayor Bowser. “Any and all information will help our efforts to bring this suspect to justice. We cannot allow this type of depraved indifference to life and childhood to go unpunished.”
At approximately 6:57 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. While investigating, MPD was notified that a juvenile male, suffering from a gunshot wound, was taken to a Prince George’s County Fire Department Station. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years of age, with a medium complexion, a medium build, wearing black pants, and no shirt. The suspect was captured by a nearby surveillance camera and can be seen in the photos below:
In partnership with MPD, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has offered an additional $15,000 and the FBI Washington Field Office has offered an additional $10,000 to the reward of $25,000 for information which leads to an arrest and conviction of the suspect in this case.
