Mayor Bowser to Award $8.2M in Grants for Afterschool Programming at Ribbon Cutting on MacFarland Middle School

Sunday, August 19, 2018
Mayor Bowser to Lead Administration Officials and Volunteers Reminding Motorists of the Slow Down Campaign

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, August 20, at 4 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will award over 80 non-profit organizations a total of more than $8.2 million in grants for 2018-2019 afterschool programming at the ribbon cutting on MacFarland Middle School. MacFarland Dual Language Middle School will be a newly renovated school in the existing MacFarland building. With the 2018-2019 school year, MacFarland will continue to grow their Dual-Language program and will welcome their first 6th grade comprehensive (non-dual language) class.

Prior to the ribbon cutting, Mayor Bowser and other Administration officials will be at Georgia Avenue, NW near the intersections of Kansas Avenue, NW and Iowa, NW to remind motorists to slow down and use caution while school is in session, as a part of Mayor Bowser’s Safe Passage/Slow Down Campaign.

Earlier this year, Mayor Bowser launched the Learn24 initiative to focus on ensuring all students have access to safe places to learn and discover their passions and interests beyond the regular school day. District residents can visit Learn24.dc.gov to find afterschool and out-of-school time programs for youth ages 5-21 years old.
