Mayor Bowser to Announce Work Readiness Programs for Returning Citizens

Friday, September 11, 2015

On Monday, September 14th at 10:30 am at the DC Central Detention Facility, Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC officials will announce two innovative training and professional development programs designed to support the transition of male and female returning citizens back into society. The programs, developed in collaboration with several District agencies as well as Events DC and the Congress Heights Community Training & Development Corporation (CHCTDC), aim to strengthen reentry efforts and provide education and employment services for returning citizens following incarceration.  After delivering remarks, Mayor Bowser will tour the work readiness unit.

In August, Mayor Bowser outlined a comprehensive public safety agenda, the Safer, Stronger DC plan, that focuses on not just policing but bringing stability to communities as well. Through these initiatives, returning citizens will gain an opportunity to develop the skills they need to create their pathway to the middle class.
