Washington, DC Picked as a Top City in Age-Friendly Policies

World Health Organization and AARP will Recognize the District’s Commitment to Residents of All-Ages in a Ceremony with the Mayor

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, November 16, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will accept an award from the World Health Organization (WHO) and AARP for the release of the District’s five-year Age-Friendly DC Progress Report. Age-Friendly DC, which is led by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, is a coordinated and comprehensive initiative to ensure DC residents of all ages are active, connected, healthy, and engaged. Mayor Bowser will also highlight key areas where her Administration will continue to implement sound policy practices over the next five years.

Since the launch of Age-Friendly DC, the Bowser Administration has helped seniors with home modifications and security camera installations through the Safe at Home program; recognized 43 local businesses as Age-Friendly Businesses; launched the Alternative Pathways to Employment Program to refresh the job skills of 50+ year old residents; placed program graduates into the workforce; and, provided “Senior$afe” training to financial securities industry professionals on how to spot and report financial exploitation of older residents.
