Washington, DC and the Hospitality Alliance Provide Deals and Discounts to Military Through ‘DC Salutes You’

Servicemen and women invited back to the nation’s capital for future leisure travel

(Washington, DC)  Mayor Muriel E. Bowser and the Hospitality Alliance, comprised of Destination DC, Events DC, Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington and the Hotel Association of Washington, DC, today announced that members of the military will be eligible for special deals and discounts in DC through the “DC Salutes You” program.

In a show of appreciation for their service to Washington, DC, the hospitality industry invites military, law enforcement, veterans and first responders back to the nation’s capital to experience the city’s hotels, restaurants, attractions and local businesses.

Current deals in each type of business follow the latest COVID-19 health and safety guidelines and are listed on washington.org/dcsalutesyou. Businesses are invited to offer deals through the end of the year, so they are in place as soon as current guidelines allow for visitors to experience them.

“We are grateful for the many Guards and law enforcement officers who played a role in securing the Capitol and ensuring a safe and dignified transition of power, and want to invite them and their families back to DC to enjoy all our city has to offer – as soon as it is safe to do so,” said Mayor Bowser. “For many reasons, this year’s Inauguration was an extraordinary event, but we know that with everything going on – especially with the ongoing pandemic – most of the officers and guards didn’t get a chance to fully appreciate our Nation’s Capital. Whether you’re in downtown DC or one of our many vibrant neighborhoods, DC has so much to offer, and we look forward to welcoming these heroes and visitors from all around the world back to the greatest city in the world – and soon to be the 51st state.”

“The District of Columbia and Mayor Bowser are grateful for every law enforcement officer, first responder and National Guard member that answered the call for backup on January 6th and thus helped save the republic,” said Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development John Falcicchio. “When the health conditions allow, we invite them to return to experience all DC has to offer. I thank our partners at the Hospitality Alliance and the participating businesses for collaborating to give back to those who make sacrifices for us all not just on that day but every day.”

“At its core, the hospitality industry is about welcoming people, and as a former member of the Air Force National Guard, proud DC resident and American, I’m happy to create this program with our partners and local businesses to invite our troops to experience DC with their families when the time is right,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, II, president and CEO of Destination DC, the official destination marketing organization for Washington, DC. “DC’s expansive outdoor options, incredible arts and culture, more than 100 free things to do and resilient local businesses help make the city a perfect choice for travel when the pandemic subsides.”

“We are honored to support Mayor Bowser’s efforts in showing the city’s appreciation for the commitment and sacrifices that the men and women of our National Guard made to keep us safe,” stated Greg O’Dell, president and chief executive officer at Events DC. “I find pride in watching our resilient hospitality industry come together to support such an important cause. We are also grateful to our partners for stepping up and welcoming our troops and their families back to enjoy our amazing nation’s capital and all it has to offer.”

“DC has such a vibrant restaurant scene for visitors to explore and our local restaurants look forward to showing their appreciation as they offer many delicious options from indoor and outdoor dining to takeout and delivery,” said Kathy E. Hollinger, President and CEO of Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington. “These expansive options, paired with deals from across the hospitality community through our partners, will ensure that the military service members and their families enjoy all DC has to offer.”

“Hotels are thrilled to offer our nation's servicemen and women the opportunity to return to DC to enjoy the best that the District's hospitality industry has to offer,” said Solomon Keene, Jr., president and CEO, Hotel Association of Washington, D.C. “We look forward to continuing to work in conjunction with Mayor Bowser as we collectively thank our troops and reinvigorate the vitality of the hospitality industry in our nation's capital.”
