(WASHINGTON, DC) – Due to issues arising from an open valve at DC Water’s Bryant Street pumping station on Thursday, July 12, DC Water has issued a Boil Water Advisory for parts of Washington, DC. Residents and businesses can learn more about impacted areas by using DC Water’s interactive map found HERE and at dcwater.com. Out of an abundance of caution, the District is taking the following actions:
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR):
Pools, spray parks, and water fountains will be closed at DPR facilities within the impacted area until further notice. Anyone showering at these facilities should not swallow water.

Emery , Banneker, Lamond, Kennedy, Takoma, Riggs LaSalle, Palisades, Friendship, Harry Thomas, Hearst, North Michigan Park, Turkey Thicket, Brentwood, Langdon, Columbia Heights, U Street, Marie Reed, Parkview, Jellef, Petworth, Raymond, Upshur, Kalorama, Stead, Mitchell & Rose Park, Volta, Hardy, Guy Mason, Stoddert.
Impacted Pools:
Wilson, Dunbar, Upshur, Banneker, Francis, Volta, Turkey Thicket, Langdon, Dunbar, Jelleff, Marie Reed, Happy Hollow, Harry Thomas, Theodore Haggans.
Impacted Spray Parks:
14th & Girard, 14th & Park, Columbia Heights, Harrison, Stead Park, Westminster, Friendship, Macomb, Palisades, Guy Mason, Petworth, Riggs-LaSalle, Takoma, Langdon Park, Turkey Thicket, Kennedy.
DC Public Schools (DCPS) and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education:
Regarding food service at DCPS summer school sites:
- All cooked products are being heated to safe internal temperatures.
- DCPS has instructed food service vendor staff to follow the Boil Water Advisory.
- Bottled water will be delivered and distributed to students for drinking water.
The DC Free Summer Meals program will not be impacted.
Hospitals:
All hospitals within the affected area have back up water plans.
Shelters:
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is delivering bottled water to residents in affected shelters, including motels, apartment-style shelters, New York Avenue Men’s Shelter, and Adams Place Emergency Shelter and Day Center. Bottled water is also being made available at client-facing facilities under the advisory, including Taylor Street Service Center and Virginia Williams Family Resource Center.
Restaurants:
DC Health has issued mandatory orders to food establishments in the impacted areas, which can be found HERE.
