Statement on Recent Ruling from the United States District Court for the District of Columbia

Tuesday, October 3, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Following the United States District Court for the District of Columbia’s recent ruling, denying the DC Association of Chartered Public Schools’ motion for summary judgement and granting the District of Columbia’s cross-motion for summary judgment, Mayor Bowser released the following statement:

“Our job is to ensure that, across all eight wards, every student, in every school has access to the high-quality educational opportunities they deserve. Our city has two thriving public education sectors, and my Administration looks forward to continuing to work with leaders from both sectors to ensure our schools receive the resources and support they need.

“With enrollment, achievement, and graduation rates on the rise at both DCPS and our public charter schools, we are proud to see that a decade of education reform and our historic investments in education are working for students and families across the city. With our Fiscal Year 2018 budget, which includes the largest investment in public education in our city’s history, including the recently announced $92.6 million in additional funding for public charter schools over the next four years, we will continue to build on this success. Whether our students attend traditional public schools or public charter schools, they are all our kids and they all deserve our very best.”
