Statement on Potential Proposal for Paid Family Leave in Washington, DC

Monday, November 28, 2016

(Washington, DC) Today, Mayor Bowser’s Communications Director Kevin Harris released the following statement regarding a potential proposal for paid family leave in the District, noting concerns that an overwhelming majority of benefits could go to non-District residents:

“The Mayor looks forward to reviewing Chairman Mendelson’s full proposal once it is released to the public, however, without the full details she remains concerned that the legislation does not go far enough in putting DC families first. This is about fairness, and if we are going to raise a quarter of a billion dollars in new taxes each year, then DC families should be the primary beneficiaries.”
