Statement from Mayor Bowser on the Introduction of the Updated HEROES Act

Monday, September 28, 2020

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued the following statement on the new HEROES Act, which makes Washington, DC whole in the amount of $755 million to correct the misclassification of the District in the CARES Act.

“I want to thank Speaker Pelosi and the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives for their unwavering commitment to making DC whole by providing the full and equal state-level coronavirus relief funding.

“Washingtonians have the awesome responsibility to ensure that the Nation’s Capital has excellent health resources and the ability to respond to any type of emergency, including an unforeseen coronavirus pandemic. Our health care workers and network provide not only for our residents, but also for the more than 20 million visitors we welcome each year, as well as the daily federal workforce.

“With this funding, we can continue to provide the services and infrastructure that our residents and visitors deserve and have come to expect. We thank Speaker Pelosi for always having the District’s back, and we urge the Senate to support the HEROES Act.”
