(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, William Nelson of Morningside, Maryland pled guilty to charges of felony assault and misdemeanor assault for attacking two people on a Metro train on June 7th.  In response, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued the following statement:

“I commend U.S. Attorney Vincent H. Cohen, Jr., Chief of the Metro Transit Police Ron Pavlik, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey Merikas for bringing justice to this case.  Hundreds of thousands of people ride public transportation in and out of our city every day – safely, and without incident.  And when someone violates that safety in a random act of violence, our law enforcement works with the justice system to hold those criminals accountable for their actions.”

Nelson entered the guilty plea in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.  You can read more here about the court outcome.
