Statement on February 2024 Revenue Estimates

Thursday, February 29, 2024

(Washington, DC) – Today, the DC Government released the revised revenue estimates for the District of Columbia Budget and Financial Plan. The revenue forecast includes modest increases across the financial plan. In response, Mayor Bowser released the following statement:

“The District’s economy continues to strengthen. When we launched our Comeback Plan, we said we would focus on three pillars: changing spaces, filling spaces, and bringing people to our city and our neighborhoods. By staying focused on those pillars, we’ve driven progress: we increased our population by 8,000 new residents; welcomed more visitors and increased hotel occupancy; added more than 12,000 jobs, with a strong rebound in our hospitality and leisure industries; and kickstarted the critical work Downtown to convert office space to housing. We invested in public safety and public education – the drivers of the renaissance of modern Washington, and those investments have also yielded positive results. Now, we must keep pressing forward. In the face of rising operational costs, we must continue to be fiscally responsible and focused. Over the past week, I have heard from hundreds of residents at our budget engagement forums and what I’ve heard is what we know: Washingtonians are excited about the future of our city, a future where we continue to fight for the middle class and invest in safe and vibrant neighborhoods.”
