Statement on December 2023 Revenue Estimates

Friday, December 29, 2023

(Washington, DC) – Today, the DC Government released the revised revenue estimates for the District of Columbia Budget and Financial Plan. The forecast for the financial plan remains largely unchanged from the September 2023 estimates. In response, Mayor Bowser released the following statement:

“At the start of 2023, we launched DC’s Comeback Plan, and over the past 12 months, our city has stayed focused on putting that plan into action. The results have been strong and steady progress. In 2023, our population continued to increase, as did our tourism and transit numbers. Our focus on Downtown is producing results: we welcomed new employers Downtown, celebrated transformed spaces like the new Johns Hopkins University on Pennsylvania Avenue, and hosted big events like the World Culture Festival. We go into 2024 ready to build on that progress. We know that a top priority must be to work together as a region to ensure that WMATA has the funding it needs to provide reliable, world-class service to the National Capital Region. We will stay focused on reimagining Downtown, in collaboration with local leaders who have strong track records of transforming and building neighborhoods that are vibrant places to live, work, and visit. We will continue to invest in the drivers of DC’s renaissance – public safety and public education. DC is resilient, but our resilience is not the result of chance; it is because we have been responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars and strategically invested in the resources and programs that make our city an attractive place to live and do business. That work will continue in 2024.”
