(SHANGHAI, CHINA) – Today, Mayor Bowser met with Executive Vice Mayor of Shanghai Mr. Tu Guangshao, as part of the District’s trade mission to China.
The meeting provided the District with an opportunity to initiate a diplomatic relationship with the Economic Center of China and encourage investment and trade from Shanghai to Washington, DC. Shanghai is the commercial and financial center of mainland China, and ranks 16th in the 2015 edition of the Global Financial Centres Index.
Joining Mayor Bowser were former Mayor Anthony Williams, President and CEO, Federal City Council, Jim Dinegar, President and CEO, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Harry Wingo, President and CEO, DC Chamber of Commerce and Brian Kenner, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development who discussed the economic landscape of Washington, DC with Shanghai officials and highlighted several real estate investment projects underway in the District.
The purpose of the Mayor Bowser’s trade mission is to create District jobs by increasing trade and Chinese investment in DC.
