MetroExtra 59 Limited-Stop Bus Service on 14th Street, NW

Sunday, January 7, 2018

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Monday, January 8, at 8 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will take an inaugural ride on the MetroExtra 59 Limited Stop bus route along 14th Street, NW to officially launch the new service. The new service is part of Mayor Bowser’s on-going effort to enhance bus service on Priority Corridor Network (PCN) routes such as 14th Street to provide faster trips that connect activity centers through Wards 1, 2 and 4.

Safe and reliable public transportation is critical to getting residents to and from work, and so the launch will be the kick-off for #PathwaystotheMiddleClass Week. Mayor Bowser’s FY 2018 budget included $1.2 million for the new route, which will serve the area between the Takoma Metrorail station and the Federal Triangle Metrorail station. In 2012, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) partnered with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to study ways of improving Metrobus along this PCN, and the new 59 is the result of that study.

Throughout #PathwaysToTheMiddleClass Week, Mayor Bowser will highlight the resources and programs the Administration is using to expand economic prosperity across all eight wards.
