Mayor Bowser to Welcome New DCPS Chancellor Antwan Wilson On His First Day, Highlight Education Priorities

Tuesday, January 31, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Wednesday, February 1 at 10:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will welcome Antwan Wilson as he begins his first official day as Chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and highlight education priorities as the city begins a new chapter in education reform. With increased enrollment, graduation rates and academic achievement, DCPS continues to be the fastest improving urban school district in the nation.

Over the past two years, the Bowser Administration has launched extended school year at 11 DCPS schools; opened DC’s only all-boys public high school, Ron Brown College Preparatory High School; fully-funded a travel abroad program for DCPS students; launched the Summer Strong DC initiative; increased access to libraries and books; and expanded access to hands-on learning opportunities. In FY17, the Mayor invested an additional $220 million in the modernization of schools and increased the Uniform Per-Student Funding Formula by two percent.
