Mayor Bowser Weekly Press Guidance for Tuesday, September 3, 2019 – Sunday, September 8, 2019

Ahead of hosting the National Maternal and Infant Health Summit on September 10, Mayor Bowser will highlight the District’s efforts to enhance the health of women and babies while also making Washington, DC more affordable for families.

  • On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will hold an event at Costco to remind residents and businesses of the upcoming elimination of the sales tax on diapers on October 1, made possible by a $4.5 million investment in the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget and the support of At Large Councilmember Anita Bonds. Later, the Mayor will deliver remarks on DC statehood to Georgetown Law students as part of the Law Center’s Hart Lecture Series.
     
  • On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will visit the National Children’s Center, a child development center in Ward 8, to highlight the District’s investments to expand high-quality programs serving infants and toddlers, including the Quality Improvement Network. That afternoon, Mayor Bowser will deliver remarks at the District’s My Brother’s Keeper Summit 2019, featuring dynamic, thought provoking conversations to inspire residents to engage and participate in volunteering and mentoring programs.
     
  • On Saturday, Mayor Bowser will deliver remarks at the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the REACH at the Kennedy Center.
