This week, Mayor Bowser will host her second annual National Maternal and Infant Health Summit, convening parents, health professionals and public officials from across the nation to craft policy solutions to improve the lives and health of mothers, infants and families.
- On Monday, Mayor Bowser will visit with children and families at the Strong Start DC Early Intervention Program office to observe a Strong Start community playgroup, which provides families with information about their child’s development, early childhood developmental screenings, early intervention process and community resources.
- On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will host the District’s second annual National Maternal and Infant Health Summit. Featuring panel discussions and a luncheon focused on best infant and maternal health practices, the Summit will further develop a nationwide agenda that addresses the disproportionally high rates of maternal mortality experienced by people of color in Washington, DC and across the nation. The Summit will build on the work of Thrive by Five DC, an initiative launched the Mayor at last year’s summit to ensure that every family in the District is knowledgeable of and connected to programs and resources that support maternal and early childhood health.
- On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will visit DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service Department Engine 16 on the 18th anniversary of the September 11 attacks to honor the District’s first responders and uphold the memories of those the District lost. Later, Mayor Bowser will join the National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s Washington, DC Chapter at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 49th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) for an event to promote and empower black female entrepreneurs to participate in the legal cannabis economy.
- On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will participate in the arrival ceremony and viewing of Douglas E. Moore, a former councilmember and civil rights leader, who will lie repose at the John A. Wilson Building. That evening, Mayor Bowser will attend a reception to welcome 2019 CBCF ALC attendees to Washington, DC.
- On Friday, Mayor Bowser will deliver remarks at the African American Mayors Association’s CBCF ALC Reception.
- On Saturday, Mayor Bowser will walk in the 38th Annual Congress Heights Day Parade. Later, the Mayor will attend a DCPS Block Party at Theodore Roosevelt High School to celebrate the start of the new school year with food, fun and music.
