Mayor Bowser Weekly Press Guidance for Monday, May 13-Sunday, May 19

This week, Mayor Bowser will engage residents and participate in events highlighting her Fiscal Year 2020 budget proposal’s investments to promote affordable housing, economic opportunity, and a #FairShot for all residents.

  • On Monday, Mayor Bowser will host an event to award 2019 Great Streets grants to 45 DC small businesses across all eight wards. Great Streets is helping transform 13 designated corridors throughout the District. The Council’s budget proposal would strip $2.1 million in funding that has been used for the Great Streets and Neighborhood Prosperity Fund programs. Later, Mayor Bowser will host an event to proclaim Monday, May 13, as Kojo Nnamdi Day in honor of his 20-year career with WAMU and significant contributions to the District.
  • On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will meet with Ward 2 residents at the Citizens Association of Georgetown’s Annual Meeting to discuss important investments in her FY 2020 budget proposal.
  • On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will cut the ribbon on the renovated Fort Chaplin Park Apartments and deliver 549 dedicated affordable housing units to Ward 7. Later, Mayor Bowser will kick off her 2019 Great Graffiti Wipeout and lead a community walk, unveil new street and yard signs aimed at curbing litter and illegal dumping, and honor community groups for their neighborhood cleanup efforts.
  • On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will kick off the District’s 2020 Census #CompleteCount campaign to ensure every resident is counted and DC receives its fair share of federal resources.
  • On Friday, Mayor Bowser will highlight the District’s affordable housing investments and call for a region-wide housing strategy at the Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County’s annual conference.
