Mayor Bowser Weekly Press Guidance - Monday, March 11, 2019 – Sunday, March 17, 2019

Sunday, March 10, 2019

As HERstory month continues, Mayor Bowser highlights her Administration’s commitment to providing all Washingtonians a fair shot through the advancement of housing and employment opportunities for residents in all 8 wards.

  • On Monday, Mayor Bowser will lead a national discussion on affordable and workforce housing at the National League of Cities (NLC) Congressional City Conference.

  • On, Tuesday, Mayor Bowser hosts a ribbon cutting at the official grand opening of the new Busboys and Poets in downtown Anacostia, marking the expansion of jobs, opportunity, and amenities to residents of Ward 8. In October 2016, Mayor Bowser broke ground on the 20,000 square-foot facility, which will serve as a community gathering space, made possible by over $13 million in District government grants and financing. This unprecedented investment, made in partnership with the Far Southeast Strengthening Collaborative, builds on Mayor Bowser’s ongoing commitment to expanding prosperity and creating pathways to the middle class for residents across all eight wards.

  • On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser hosts a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Beacon Center, a mixed-use building that features 99 affordable housing units for families, veterans, persons transitioning from homelessness, and seniors in the Georgia Avenue Corridor. The project, a collaborative effort between private entities and city agencies, was made possible through a $17.2 million investment by the Bowser Administration. When the project broke ground in 2016, Mayor Bowser celebrated a then record $106 million investment in the Housing Production Trust Fund in year one of her Administration. Since the Mayor came in office, the District has created or preserved 7,200 units of affordable housing.

  • On Thursday, Mayor Bowser attends the Ward 4 Mini Commission on Aging monthly meeting to discuss strategies to ensure that DC residents of every age are active, connected, healthy, engaged, and able to age safely in their own homes. Later, Mayor Bowser attends the 2019 Washington Region Vision Zero Summit at George Washington University where she will discuss her Vision Zero Initiative. That evening, Mayor Bowser receives the 2019 Founder’s Award for her historic commitment to ending chromic homelessness in the District at the N Street Village Gala and Auction.
