Mayor Bowser Weekly Press Guidance Monday, July 8 – Sunday, July 14, 2019

This week, Mayor Bowser will highlight key investments and promote policy initiatives related to creating and preserving affordable housing in the District of Columbia and nationally, including her bold goal to create 36,000 new homes, 12,000 of them affordable, in the District by 2025.

  • On Monday, Mayor Bowser will cut the ribbon on family-sized affordable homes in the Shaw neighborhood, transforming a once vacant lot into affordable housing as part of her Vacant to Vibrant initiative.
     
  • On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser, chair of the National League of Cities Housing Taskforce, will unveil the taskforce’s final report, which will outline the best practices cities can implement to address the national affordable housing crisis.
     
  • On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will travel to New York City for the annual visit with the bond rating agencies. The Mayor will return on Thursday. 
     
  • On Friday, Mayor Bowser will mark the start of selected renovation work of the Worthington Woods Apartments in the Congress Heights neighborhood to celebrate the 1,000th unit funded by her Housing Preservation Fund.
