Mayor Bowser Weekly Press Guidance for Monday, August 26, 2019-Sunday, September 1, 2019

This week, Mayor Bowser will welcome students, educators and families back to school and kick off the annual 202Creates celebration.

  • On Monday, Mayor Bowser will start the day at a Slow Down event at Lincoln Park, reminding motorists that school is back in session and to use caution while driving through DC. Later that day, the Mayor will cut the ribbons on the modernized Maury Elementary School in Ward 6 and Kimball Elementary School in Ward 7. Mayor Bowser will also sit down with students at Bard DC, a new DCPS high school in Ward 7 that will provide students with two years of college courses through an early college program.
     
  • On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser will address Destination DC’s annual Marketing Outlook Meeting and promote the District’s world-class amenities and attractions.
     
  • On Wednesday, Mayor Bowser will break ground on two new 100% affordable communities, Providence Place and the Strand Residences, that are part of the New Communities Initiative. The communities will deliver 179 homes to the Deanwood neighborhood of Ward 7, including 63 units of replacement housing for Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings families.
     
  • On Thursday, Mayor Bowser will kick off the fifth annual 202Creates, a month-long initiative honoring DC’s creative community.
     
  • On Friday, Mayor Bowser will cut the ribbon on the modernized Roosevelt High School field in Ward 4.
