(Washington, DC) – On Thursday, February 22 at 11:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will visit the Hill East campus to explore two new restaurants: Sala Thai and Duffy’s Irish Pub.
As part of the visit, Mayor Bowser will tour both establishments, meet with staff and owners, and encourage residents to visit these new additions to the Hill East community.
Sala Thai and Duffy’s Irish Pub both opened in late 2023 and each received support from the Food Access Fund, a program supporting new grocery stores, restaurants, and fast-casual restaurants, with a focus on Wards 7 and 8. Since 2021, Mayor Bowser has invested almost $40 million in the program to increase access to food access points.
The District Government supported Phase 1 of the Hill East redevelopment project with a $14.5 million investment to construct the infrastructure and roadways surrounding The Ethel and Park Kennedy. The restaurants are located in retail space on the ground floor of the Park Kennedy. The Park Kennedy and The Ethel together offer 362 units of housing, including 100 units of permanent supportive housing and 31 units of traditional affordable housing, and 24,000 square feet of combined retail space.
Phase 2 of the Hill East redevelopment project, which consists of eight development parcels totaling nearly 12 acres of developable land, will deliver 85,000 square feet of retail space, a park, hotel, and approximately 2,200 residential units, of which approximately one-third will be deeply affordable, one-third will be middle income, and one-third will be market-rate.
