Mayor Bowser to Rally in Support of Bringing Gay Games 2022 to Washington, DC

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, June 28, at 6:30 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will rally in support of bringing Gay Games 2022 to Washington, DC at the Gay Games XI Bid Community Rally. Washington, DC is one of the three finalists, and DC’s bid will offer 36 sports throughout the metropolitan area; a cultural component that includes music, visual arts, theatre, and spoken word; opening and closing ceremonies; and a Human Rights Conference that will address issues of LGBTQ inclusion in sports and other human rights issues.

Held every four years to celebrate the LGBTQ community through sports and culture, the next Gay Games will be held in Paris, France in 2018. It is anticipated that Gay Games 2022 will bring 12,000-15,000 competitors and approximately 80,000-100,000 spectators to Washington, DC and have an economic impact greater than $100 million.
