Mayor Bowser to Proclaim “Ruby Bridges Day” on 59th Anniversary of Her Historic First Day of Classes

(Washington, DC) – On Thursday, November 14, at 2:30 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join students to proclaim November 14, 2019, “Ruby Bridges Day” on the 59th anniversary of the day she became the first African American child to attend an all-white elementary school in the South.

The Mayor’s proclamation originated from a letter she received from third-grade student Temima Genauer, who asked for a day to honor Ruby Bridges and celebrate her bravery.
