(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, June 9, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with community members, will preview the installation of temporary rainbow-colored crosswalks in Dupont Circle and ask residents to join her at the Capital Pride Parade. Mayor Bowser will also call on DC artists to submit designs for four storm drains on 17th Street, NW to the DC Department of Energy and Environment and the Anacostia Watershed Society. Each storm drain will raise awareness about stormwater pollution in the District’s waterways and promote the LGBTQ identity of the neighborhood. DC artists who are interested in participating should visit anacostiaws.org. Deadline for submission is June 16, 2017.
Since taking office in 2015, Mayor Bowser has promoted inclusive prosperity and diversity to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community in Washington, DC. As Co-Chair of the Mayors Against Discrimination, a bipartisan coalition of municipal leaders dedicated to securing inclusive nondiscrimination protections for all, Mayor Bowser will continue to ensure the District provides the highest level of civil rights protections for LGBTQ residents.
