Mayor Bowser to Participate in Unveiling of Paul Devrouax Way

Celebrates and Honors African American Architectural Pioneer in Washington, DC

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, September 21, at 10:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, Councilmember Jack Evans, and Councilmember Brandon Todd to unveil “Paul Devrouax Way,” honoring the African American architectural pioneer responsible for designing several iconic buildings in Washington, DC.

Paul Devrouax’s architecture firm, Devrouax & Purnell, designed some of District’s most notable buildings, including the Reeves Center, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and Nationals Park. Devrouax also designed the Pepco building, making him the first African American to design a building in downtown DC.

“Paul Devrouax Way,” will be designated between 7th and 9th Streets, NW on G Street, established by District of Columbia Bill 22-219, the Paul Devrouax Way Designation act of 2017.
