Mayor Bowser to Participate in Point in Time Count and Raise Awareness of Services Available to the Homeless

(Washington DC) – On Wednesday, January 24 at 9 pm, Mayor Bowser, along with volunteers, will engage homeless neighbors to make them aware of the services available to them as well as execute the annual census of persons experiencing homelessness as part of her administration’s annual Point in Time Count.

In 2015, Mayor Bowser and her Interagency Council on Homelessness (ICH) released “Homeward DC,” a five-year strategic plan to reform the District’s homeless services system and make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring. Between 2016 and 2017, after the first full year of the plan’s implementation, Washington, DC saw a 10.5 percent reduction in overall homelessness, a 22 percent reduction in homelessness among families, a 15 percent reduction among veterans experiencing homelessness, and a 3 percent reduction in homelessness among individuals.
