Mayor Bowser to Participate in Annual Point in Time Count and Raise Awareness about Services Available to Residents Experiencing Homelessness

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, January 23, at 9 pm, Mayor Bowser, along with volunteers, will engage homeless neighbors to make them aware of the services available to them as well as execute the annual census of persons experiencing homelessness as part of her administration’s annual Point in Time Count.
 
In 2015, Mayor Bowser and her Interagency Council on Homelessness (ICH) released “Homeward DC,” a five-year strategic plan to reform the District’s homeless services system and make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring. 
 
Between 2017 and 2018, the second full year of the plan’s implementation, Washington, DC saw a 7.6 percent reduction in overall homelessness and a 17.3 percent reduction from 2016. Family homelessness decreased by 21 percent from 2017 and by nearly 40 percent since the 2016 PIT count.
