Mayor Bowser to Open Safer Stronger DC Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement

Tuesday, October 24, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Wednesday, October 25, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will be joined by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice to announce the official opening of the Safer Stronger DC Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, a new office that will solely focus on public health solutions, violence prevention, and provide collaborative services for local agencies that support DC residents who are affected by violence. During the grand opening, Mayor Bowser will formally introduce the new Executive Director of the Safer Stronger DC Office.

As part of Mayor’s Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2018 Budget, the Safer Stronger DC Office was created to foster a community-oriented model of violence prevention and public safety; employing a strategy rooted in a public health approach; and recognizing that crime reduction is not accomplished through law enforcement alone. Created to consolidate the work under the Safer, Stronger DC Community Partnerships and the Community Stabilization Program, the new office will work with the Office of Budget and Performance Management to establish clear baseline performance measurements, daily monitoring, and analyzing the outcomes of the programs.
