Mayor Bowser to Mark Renovation of 220 Affordable Units in Ward 8

Sunday, March 25, 2018

(Washington, DC)  On Monday, March 26, at 11:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate a renovation groundbreaking for Parkway Overlook Apartments, 220 affordable housing units in the Ward 8 neighborhood of Congress Heights, a complex that will have mostly family-sized units and provide workforce development training to residents and energy savings through the installation of solar panels through the Solar for All program.

Over 10 years in the making, the collaboration of three District housing agencies under the Bowser Administration, DC Housing Authority (DCHA), the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the DC Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA), closed a financing deal in February that lead the way for this long awaited renovation at Parkway Overlook.

Since coming into office, the Bowser Administration has sparked the creation or preservation of more than 10,400 affordable units, with another 2,950 in preconstruction. In Fiscal Year 2017, the District made historic investments in affordable housing, getting more than $138 million in Housing Production Trust Fund financing out the door to support 23 projects that will produce or preserve more than 1,900 affordable units.
