Mayor Bowser to Lead Public Safety Walk in Ward 8

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Monday, May 8, at 3 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will be joined by Chief Peter Newsham, Metropolitan Police Department, and Administration officials to participate in a public safety walk in Ward 8 to address concerns in the Douglas Knoll and Congress Heights neighborhood. The Mayor will highlight progress in public safety, including decreases in homicides, robberies, and assaults with dangerous weapons.

Mayor Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2018 Budget Proposal includes $11.7 million in enhancements focused on recruiting and retaining MPD officers, $42.2 million for the purchase of new MPD fleet vehicles, and increase opportunities for officers to return to patrol-related duties.
