Mayor Bowser to Lead FitDC Ward 8 Walk

Friday, October 23, 2015

(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 9 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser along with Ward 8 Councilmember LaRuby May, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Brenda Donald, DC Department of Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson and Ward 8 Fit DC Coach Charles Taylor will participate in a 1.5 mile FitDC walk around the Fort Stanton neighborhood. FitDC is a citywide initiative which encourages residents of all eight wards to live healthier lifestyles by linking them to nutrition and physical fitness resources in their communities, including FitDC coaches who can offer guidance on making healthier lifestyle choices. Mayor Bowser is committed to a fresh start in health and wellness in the District of Columbia.

Mayor Bowser will also discuss the One Billion Steps Challenge, which encourages DC residents to get more active, eat healthier foods and walk one billion steps. Ten FitDC coaches – one per ward, plus a youth and senior coach – continue to encourage participants in the One Billion Steps Challenge to take control of their own health by moving more and making healthier choices.
