On Monday, March 11 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will launch the District’s Housing in Downtown program. Mayor Bowser will also join representatives from Willco and the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) for a hard hat tour of the nearly-completed the Elle apartments, the first major office-to-residential conversion in the Golden Triangle BID.
Housing in Downtown is an innovative program designed to catalyze new residential development and add thousands of new residents downtown via a 20-year tax abatement. The program is expected to help achieve 90% of the Mayor’s goal of 15,000 new residents Downtown by 2028.
The Elle apartments, which broke ground in 2022 on the site of the former Peace Corps headquarters at 20th and L Streets, NW, will feature 163 residential units across 185,000 square feet in the heart of Downtown DC. Willco is leading the redevelopment of the project.
