Mayor Bowser to Launch 2022-2023 School Year with Slow Down Campaign and Ribbon Cutting at the Newly Modernized School-Within-School at Goding

Sunday, August 28, 2022

On Monday, August 29, at 8:30 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate the first day of school by leading a Slow Down Campaign and welcoming students to the newly modernized School-Within-School at Goding in Ward 6.

The Slow Down Campaign promotes and emphasizes the need for all drivers to slow down and be extra cautious while traveling in school zones, which generally have a 15 mile per hour speed limit. The campaign also emphasizes mayoral investments in school zone safety, such as an increased number of school crossing guards and safety improvements such as more signage, pavement markings-crosswalks and speed humps.

Following the Slow Down Campaign, Mayor Bowser will cut the ribbon on the newly modernized School-Within-School at Goding, a District-wide public elementary school serving students in PK3 to 5th grade and offering the only full Reggio Emilia program in the DCPS portfolio. This $51.7 million project renovates and adds 75,377 square feet of space to accommodate an increase in enrollment capacity from 300 students to 350.
