(WASHINGTON, DC) – Tomorrow at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will speak to students at Jefferson Middle School Academy in Southwest to promote the District's new Empowering Males High School which will open its doors for the 2016-2017 school year. Tomorrow is also the first day of Black History Month and the application deadline for the My School DC Lottery for grades 9-12.
Bowser will be joined by Dr. Benjamin Williams, who will serve as the first principal at the Empowering Males High School. Dr. Williams has been visiting DCPS middle schools, and charter middle schools to talk to 8th graders about this new school option in the District.
The Empowering Males High School will be Washington, DC's only all-male, college-preparatory high school that places significant emphasis on humanities and classical languages, which will ensure that every young man graduates with the skills necessary to be successful in college and career. The school will be located at the former Ron Brown Middle School located at 4800 Meade Street, NE in Ward 7. For more info on the school, visit http://dcps.dc.gov/page/empowering-males-high-school.
