(Washington, DC) - On Monday, August 20, at 9 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate the beginning of the 2018-2019 traditional school year at Excel Academy, DCPS’ first all-girls school, in Ward 8. Formerly a Public Charter School, Excel Academy is now a part of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). The school provides an opportunity that addresses the needs of young women in our city, while advancing DCPS’ commitment to promote diversity and innovation in Washington, DC.
Prior to the kick off, Mayor Bowser and other Administration officials will be at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE and Howard Street, SE to remind motorists to slow down and use caution while school is in session, as a part of Mayor Bowser’s Safe Passage/Slow Down Campaign.
