Mayor Bowser Joins Montgomery and Prince George’s Execs at Regional Summit on Fight to End Homelessness

(Washington, DC) - Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker will convene a summit on regional approaches to homelessness at a Silver Spring homeless facility on Tuesday morning, March 17. They will be joined by other leaders and experts in the efforts to prevent and end homelessness. The three jurisdictions will highlight their current initiatives and plan for future collaboration.

The facility, Progress Place, is owned by Montgomery County and is the site for meals provided by Shepherd’s Table and support services provided by Community Vision, as well as serving as an overflow winter shelter.

BACKGROUND:    
Mayor Bowser is committed to ending homelessness in the District of Columbia by 2025 by making it rare, brief and non-recurring. The Mayor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness is currently finalizing a long-term plan to achieve the Mayor’s goals.

This summit paves the way for regional collaboration in four strategic areas to reduce and end homelessness, including:

  • affordable housing
  • workforce development
  • economic development, and
  • supportive services
