Mayor Bowser to Join Residents at Citywide Truck Touch, Electric Vehicle Grand Prix

Friday, May 31, 2024

(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, June 1 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join thousands of community members and dozens of government agencies at two free, family-friendly events: the 16th Annual Citywide “Truck Touch,” sponsored by the Department of Public Works and the 12th Annual DC Electric Vehicle (EV) Grand Prix, hosted by the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE), Global EEE, and Pepco. This is the second consecutive year that both events have been held together.

Truck Touch features a host of government agencies presenting and demonstrating nearly 30 vehicles used to clean and repair streets, change traffic lights, collect refuse, clear snow, provide emergency services, administer mobile health care, and more. Children are encouraged to climb into the vehicles and learn about the various pieces of equipment. The Department of Parks and Recreation will also provide activities for people of all ages, such as tennis, basketball, and fitness instruction.

The DC EV Grand Prix is part of an educational program where more than 300 high school students representing 20 schools across the region apply their scientific, mathematic, and engineering talents in designing and constructing their own racing EVs, under the guidance of teachers and engineers from Global EEE. A short walk away on Kingman Island, DOEE will also hold a Resource Fair from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., where residents can access DOEE experts regarding environmental issues.
