Mayor Bowser to Host Roundtable Discussion With Council Chairman Mendelson, Stand With Tipped Workers

Friday, September 28, 2018

Today, September 28, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will be joined by Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and tipped hospitality workers for a roundtable discussion on repealing Initiative 77. Siding with the majority of diverse workers across all eight wards of Washington, DC, Mayor Bowser has not supported Initiative 77, legislation that would decrease the pay of thousands of servers and other tipped employees in the District.

In 2016, Mayor Bowser led a successful #FightFor15 campaign. During that campaign and earlier this year, tipped workers sent a clear message that they did not want legislation that would jeopardize their tips. Today, Mayor Bowser will call on the Council to support workers and their calls for a repeal.
