Mayor Bowser to Host Press Conference on New $10.50 Minimum Wage

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, July 1 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will usher in a new increase to the minimum wage for employees that work in the District of Columbia at a press conference hosted by Good Food Markets in Ward 5.

Starting July 1, employees working at least 50 percent of the time in the District, regardless of where they live, have a right to earn a minimum wage of $10.50 per hour, while tipped workers must earn a final rate equal to the new minimum wage. With this increase, the District of Columbia will be one of the first in the nation to have a minimum wage of at least $10.

In addition to celebrating the District’s work to put more individuals on pathways to the middle class, representatives from the labor advocacy community will deploy across DC metro stations to inform workers about their rights related to wages, sick days, pregnancy and childbirth, and criminal records screening.
