Mayor Bowser to Host Downtown Family Fun Day, Announce $19.6 Million in Grant Funding to Support Local Businesses

Sunday, January 28, 2024

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, January 29 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will host a “Downtown Family Fun Day” at National Children’s Museum to highlight the District’s investments to support businesses and create family-friendly programming in Downtown DC.

At the event, Mayor Bowser will announce the conditional awardees of the Family Fun Destinations Grant, a program managed by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) to promote the development of family-friendly attractions that drive foot traffic, offer a new experience to the surrounding neighborhood, and create positive economic impact, with a particular focus on Downtown DC.

Mayor Bowser will also launch the application period for several other grant programs, including the new Downtown Recovery Grant Program, and DMPED’s established retail and small business programs: the Great Streets Retail Small Business Grant, Neighborhood Prosperity Fund, Locally Made, and the Commercial Property Acquisition Fund. This Fiscal Year, DMPED is streamlining how businesses apply for and are awarded grant funding. Competitive grants will be released in the same period, making it easier for businesses to navigate the process and receive support during the application period.
