Mayor Bowser to Honor District Women and Girls at Excel Academy’s International Day of the Girl Celebration

Thursday, October 14, 2021

(Washington, DC) – On Friday, October 15, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will celebrate the International Day of the Girl at Excel Academy. Afterward, the Mayor will meet with student participants of Reign: Empowering Young Women as Leaders to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on girls of color. On October 11, the District commemorated International Day of the Girl Child, recognizing girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

Excel Academy, DC Public Schools’ first and only all-girls school, provides scholars with rigorous and joyful learning experiences, focused on creating a loving environment, and preparing students for future success in school and in life. Excel builds upon DCPS’ “Reign: Empowering Young Women as Leaders” initiative, which Mayor Bowser launched in 2017.
