Mayor Bowser to Celebrate 25 Years of Providing Higher Education Opportunities for DC Youth Through DCTAG

Wednesday, February 25, 2026

(Washington, DC) – On Thursday, February 26, at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser and District education leaders will hold a pep rally at Coolidge High School in Ward 4 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG), a one-of-a-kind college access program that helps cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public colleges and universities attended by District students.

Mayor Bowser will also mark the first-ever increase in the program’s award amounts, which will take effect beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. The increase raises the maximum annual award from $10,000 to $15,000 and increases the lifetime cap from $50,000 to $75,000. For the past decade, the Bowser Administration advocated and worked with partners in Congress on these increases in order to expand access to affordable higher education for even more DC residents.

Since the first DCTAG awards were made in the 2000–2001 academic year, nearly 40,000 DC residents have received more than $716 million in tuition support to attend 422 colleges and universities across 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
