Mayor Bowser to Highlight Proposed Investment to Transform K Street with Transitway Project

(Washington, DC) – Today, at 4 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will showcase plans to design and build the K Street Transitway, a major streetscape project on K Street NW with dedicated bus lanes, enhanced bicycle accessibility, and safer pedestrian intersections.

Mayor Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2020 Budget proposal allocates $122.1 million for the project. The project would improve bus speeds by 30 percent for an estimated 40,000 daily bus passengers.

The Mayor’s budget proposal contains other critical transportation investments, including $4.7 million to hire a new bike lane parking enforcement team and $16.1 million to make the zero-fare DC Circulator policy permanent and to expand the system’s routes into Ward 7.
