Mayor Bowser to Highlight New Recruiting Incentives at the Metropolitan Police Department, Encourage Residents to Join MPD

(Washington, DC) On Friday, June 17 at 12 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser and Chief Robert J. Contee, III of the Metropolitan Police Department will highlight expedited incentives aimed at encouraging District residents to pursue a career with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Qualified candidates could earn a starting salary of $60,199. After successfully completing an 18-month probationary period, their salary would increase to $65,863.

As proposed in the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget, MPD will begin offering $20,000 hiring bonus for new officers who join the department. Originally scheduled to be implemented on October 1, 2022, the start of the 2023 Fiscal Year, the Administration has expedited the program in order to bolster recruitment efforts. Additional incentives include up to $6,000 to support temporary housing and rental assistance.
