Mayor Bowser to Highlight Childcare Investments in Her FY19 Budget

Monday, April 2, 2018

(Wasahington, DC) – On Tuesday, April 3, at 2 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off Month of the Young Child by highlighting childcare investments in her FY19 budget. At the event, the Mayor will also read to classrooms of young children ages six weeks to four years of age, promoting literacy for early learners as part of the Read Across DC initiative.

Mayor Bowser’s proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget includes an additional $12.5 million investment to ensure our youngest learners enter school ready to succeed. To create even more seats for infants and toddlers, this budget will increase the child care subsidy by $10 million to provide quality, affordable care to more children. Her budget also ensures more DC residents can afford child care by creating an affordable child care refundable tax credit of up to $1,000 per child for families enrolled in any licensed DC child care facility and not receiving a child care subsidy.
