Tomorrow, February 9th at 9 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will meet with the DC Council to discuss the replacement of DC General with short-term family housing facilities across the District. DC General, the District’s largest family shelter, is too big, too old and removed from the services and supports that lift families out of homelessness.
Last year, the Council voted in support of Mayor Bowser’s plan to replace DC General with small, safe and dignified short-term housing facilities across the District. Tomorrow, Mayor Bowser will detail the final stages of her plan, including sites for new short-term family housing facilities. The Administration will also submit a legislative package that will allow the District to move forward with closing DC General once and for all.
Following the Mayor-Council Breakfast, Mayor Bowser, Director Zeilinger and other Administration Officials will be available to take questions from the press. On Thursday evening, the Bowser Administration will hold a meeting in each of the District’s 8 wards to hear from the public. RSVP for the community meeting in your ward here.
