Mayor Bowser to Cut Ribbon on Stoddert Elementary School Addition

Sunday, August 17, 2025

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, August 18 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join the Stoddert Elementary School community to cut the ribbon on the school’s new addition.

This ribbon-cutting marks the completion of the East-End Classroom Addition at Stoddert Elementary, a 16,554-square-foot expansion that includes new classrooms and a cafeteria, and that replaces modular classrooms with permanent, full-capacity classrooms. This is the first of two phases of the $26.7 million Stoddert Elementary Expansion Project. Phase II of the project, which focuses on the West-End Kitchen/Cafeteria Expansion, is expected to be completed in Summer 2026.

The Stoddert Elementary Expansion Project brings significant upgrades to the school, including 10 new classrooms, each designed with millwork, cubbies, sinks, and interactive presentation boards. The classrooms are also outfitted with modern furniture and technology, in alignment with DCPS Education Specifications. The project also incorporates sustainable features, such as geothermal energy performance improvements, into the new additions.

This event will begin the one-week countdown to the first day of school for DC Public Schools and many of the city’s charter schools.
